Game On
Always fascinated by the games people play ,but never until recently had the urge to take part. Realising that I am missing some sort of competitive spirit I looked into it even further. Many play games on line in an obsessive manner and never tire of sending messages to friends for help, equipment and favours in various forms but games can also be social and a healthy form of relaxation.
Checking this out, I found that games actually have a theory I also discovered they belong to a branch of mathematics ,but game theory involves an approach of a different nature to the one used in physical sciences where the prediction of happenings in a non-human world is needed. we talk in such cases of applied mathematics. None of this is new I know ,but its nice sometimes just to know why.
.
However, in its application game theory is more akin to the branch of economics we tend to use. Economics has been until now that is equations and some graph plans in my estimation of things, but it is this inexact science that must take account for human behaviour in its deployment to make sense of rationality and can therefore be applied to gaming formats.
.
In any situation where the choices or decisions are made by those taking part, it has to go beyond a theory or classical probability ,estimating factors of psychological reasoning such as the ability to bluff, bargain or defend out of self interest.Hence it is applicable to military strategy ,evolutionary biology and politics.
Furthermore scenarios in game theory are created either to create a bond or to divide ,both participants follow the same options but the game theory requires tactics on behalf of the players so that they learn to survive independently without betraying each other for selfish reasons, or defend themselves at the cost of another it is not so much winning that is vital but it is the fact that they don't want to lose to the other ,thus appearing the weaker less balanced player.
So gaming not only teaches participation but also helps shape cooperation.Perhaps I will think again and try a few on line games but not gambling because sometime ago, I sort of concluded that most of the odds are heavily stacked against me and in these lean times its not really on the cards or a form of risk I would be willing to take.
There are so many games available that have sculptured into their format the social structure of the society in which we now live, they don't all include muscular killers and the stable diet of blood and guts that usually accompanies such games . So Game on........Enjoy
